Possum Courses
Our Possum course has now been divided into two parts:
- Basic Possums
- Advanced Joey Possum Care
Basic Possums
Part 1 covers;
- A brief overview of the possums and gliders in the ACT, before concentrating on the brushtail possum since this is the dominant species.
- Reasons for coming into care and how we manage intake.
- Basic information needed to undertake handling and care of possums and gliders.
The training includes a manual and will enable a you to care for possums in an outdoor aviary.
Advanced Joey Possum Care
Part 2 training is hands-on and group size will depend on numbers. It covers:
- The stages of development of the brushtail possum.
- Basic handling and examination.
- Practical sessions on the feeding, toileting and housing of young joeys and discussion on their subsequent release into the wild.
- A short discussion on the use of ACT Wildlife’s database Wildman for carers.
The training includes a manual and will enable a you to care for joey possums.
Attendees MUST have completed either our Basic Possum course or have completed similar training with another wildlife care groups and be registered as a member to enrol.
