Training Calendar 2025
Training is designed to equip volunteers to rescue, rehabilitate and release native wildlife in the ACT. Whether you have never touched a native animal or have experience with native wildlife, our courses will teach the skills needed to begin to care or to take you to the next level.

January
Orientation
Sunday 12 January 9:00am – 12noon
This Orientation session will give you all the information you need about ACT Wildlife works in the community and how you can help.

Phone and Transport
Sunday 19 January 9:00am – 12noon
This training covers one of the most important aspects of the ACTW. The first contact with the public and concerns for ACT wildlife.

February
Sewing Group
Saturday 1 February 10:30am – 12:30pm
A chance to meet others and put your sewing skills to good effect to help the native animals of the ACT.
Basic Bird Training
Sunday 2 February 10:00am
This is the recommended training to take for new carers because 80% of animals in ACT Wildlife’s care are birds.

Advanced Bird Training
Sunday 11 August 9:00am
This course is aimed at carers who have previous experience in caring for birds and have gained a good basic knowledge on how to handle and rehabilitate wild birds in captivity.

March
Reptile Care
Saturday 8 March 9:00am – 12noon
This course covers biology and husbandry of Australian reptiles and you will learn how to rehabilitate them in your home. The most common reptiles that need our help are blue tongue lizards and Eastern long neck turtles.
NOTE: You MUST be registered as a member to volunteer for the organisation. Orientation
Saturday 15 March 9:00am – 12noon

Sunday 16 March 9:15am – 4:00pm
Introduction to bats of the ACT, (microbats and Flying Foxes). Deals with essential requirements plus rescue, rehabilitation and release.

An introduction into possums and gliders and how to rescue and care for ones that are sick and injured.

April
